Laptop Repair FAQ

The most common questions about our UK mail-in, component-level Windows laptop repair service — answered.

UK-wide mail-in  ·  No fix, no fee  ·  90-day warranty

Booking & Shipping

We operate as a 100% online booking service for customers across the UK. Complete our online repair request form, receive your unique Repair ID and shipping instructions by email, then pack your device securely and send it to our specialist lab in Grays, Essex. We recommend Royal Mail Special Delivery or DPD for full insurance and tracking.
To keep our repair costs competitive, we don’t currently offer home collection. Using tracked mail you can send your device from any Post Office or local drop-off point in London, Manchester, Birmingham, or anywhere in the UK.
Use a sturdy, double-walled box. Wrap the laptop in at least 3–4 layers of large bubble wrap and make sure there’s no movement inside the box. Don’t send laptops in padded envelopes — they don’t protect against pressure damage.

Repairs & Expertise

Most shops are “parts changers” — if a motherboard fails, they tell you to buy a new laptop. As seen on our YouTube channel, we specialise in component-level micro-soldering: we diagnose and replace the individual failed chips, capacitors and MOSFETs, saving you hundreds of pounds compared to a full board replacement.
Yes. We have a high success rate with liquid damage recovery using industrial ultrasonic cleaning and circuit repair. Important: if you spill liquid, don’t put the laptop in rice — power it off immediately and book a repair as soon as possible to prevent permanent corrosion.
Our standard turnaround for most UK mail-in repairs is 3–5 working days from receipt. Complex logic board repairs may take longer if specific components need sourcing. We provide status updates throughout the process.

Pricing & Warranty

Diagnosis is free when you go ahead with the repair — the time spent finding the fault is absorbed into the job. You always get a written quote before any work starts, so nothing is charged without your approval. If you decide not to proceed after the quote, a small charge covers the inspection time.
If we can’t repair your machine, you don’t pay for the work — return postage only. That applies whether a device turns out to be physically beyond repair (for example a cracked CPU or extensive multilayer board damage) or we simply can’t fix a fault we said we could.
Every hardware repair comes with a 90-day warranty as standard. We use high-quality, tested components to ensure your laptop stays fixed.

Security & Data

We prioritise data integrity, but we always recommend a full backup before shipping any device. Sorin Electronics is not responsible for data loss during the repair or shipping process.
To fully test your hardware (Wi-Fi, keyboard, sound, etc.) after a repair, we may require a login. You’re welcome to create a temporary “Guest” account or a fresh Windows install if you have privacy concerns.
With 400,000+ subscribers on our Electronics Repair School YouTube channel, we’re a trusted name in component-level repair. Many of our mail-in repairs are featured in our videos, showing the transparent “common sense” approach to fixing boards other shops deem unfixable.
