Sorin Electronics: UK Mail-In Repair FAQ

1. Booking & Shipping

Q: How do I send my laptop to Sorin Electronics? A: We operate as a 100% online booking service for customers across the UK.

  1. Complete our [Online Repair Request Form].

  2. Receive your unique Repair ID and shipping instructions via email.

  3. Pack your device securely and send it to our specialized lab in Grays, Essex. We recommend Royal Mail Special Delivery or DPD for full insurance and tracking.

Q: Do you offer a collection service? A: To keep our repair costs competitive, we do not currently offer home collection. However, by using tracked mail, you can send your device from any Post Office or local drop-off point in London, Manchester, Birmingham, or anywhere in the UK.

Q: How should I package my device? A: Use a sturdy, double-walled box. Wrap the laptop in at least 3-4 layers of large bubble wrap. Ensure there is no movement inside the box. Do not send laptops in padded envelopes, as these do not protect against pressure damage.


2. Repairs & Expertise

Q: What makes Sorin Electronics different from high-street shops? A: Most shops are “parts changers”—if a motherboard fails, they tell you to buy a new laptop. As seen on our YouTube channel, we specialize in component-level microsoldering. we diagnose and replace individual failed chips, capacitors, and MOSFETs, saving you hundreds of pounds compared to a full board replacement.

Q: Can you fix liquid damage? A: Yes. We have a high success rate with liquid damage recovery using industrial ultrasonic cleaning and circuit repair. Important: If you spill liquid, do not put the laptop in rice. Power it off immediately and book a repair as soon as possible to prevent permanent corrosion.

Q: How long does a repair take? A: Our standard turnaround for most UK mail-in repairs is 3–5 working days from receipt. Complex logic board repairs may take longer if specific components need to be sourced. We provide status updates throughout the process.


3. Pricing & Warranty

Q: Is there a diagnostic fee? A: Yes, we charge a small, non-refundable diagnostic fee to cover the expert time required to disassemble and inspect your device under a microscope. If the repair is successful, this fee is often credited toward the total labor cost.

Q: What is your “No Fix, No Fee” policy? A: If we determine that a device is physically beyond repair (e.g., a cracked CPU or extensive multilayer board damage), you only pay for the diagnostic fee and return shipping. If we cannot fix a fault that we claimed we could, you don’t pay the labor fee.

Q: Do you provide a warranty? A: Every hardware repair comes with a 90-day warranty as standard. We use high-quality, tested components to ensure your laptop stays fixed.


4. Security & Data

Q: Will my data be safe? A: We prioritize data integrity, but we always recommend a full backup before shipping any device. Sorin Electronics is not responsible for data loss during the repair or shipping process.

Q: Do you need my password? A: To fully test your hardware (WiFi, Keyboard, Sound, etc.) after a repair, we may require a login. You are welcome to create a temporary “Guest” account or a fresh Windows/macOS install if you have privacy concerns.
