Spilled water, coffee or wine on your laptop? Every hour counts. Power it off, don’t charge it, and get it to us fast — we recover liquid-damaged boards that other shops and manufacturers write off.
⚡ Act within 24–48 hours for the best chance of a full recovery
UK-wide mail-in · No fix, no fee · Boards recovered that others won’t touch · Repaired personally by Sorin
Water and electronics don’t mix — but it’s rarely the water itself that kills a board. It’s the corrosion that follows. Within hours, minerals and salts from the liquid start bridging circuits and eating into the copper traces. Within days, that corrosion works its way under the chips and through the fine solder joints, often permanently.
This is why speed matters so much. A board that reaches us within 24–48 hours of the spill has a dramatically higher recovery rate than one that sat for a week while its owner hoped it would dry out on its own.
Here’s the difference: most repair shops — and the manufacturers themselves — answer liquid damage with a full motherboard replacement, or simply write the laptop off. We repair the board itself: ultrasonically cleaning away the corrosion and replacing only the individual components the liquid has shorted. That typically costs a fraction of a new board, and saves machines other shops won’t even open.
Drying a laptop out doesn’t reverse liquid damage — it just hides it. Genuine recovery means getting inside the machine, removing every last trace of corrosion, and repairing the board at component level. Here’s exactly what happens when your laptop reaches the bench:
What you do in the first few minutes has a real effect on what’s recoverable. Follow these steps before the laptop reaches us.
Describe the fault on our booking form or by WhatsApp. We reply within about 2 hours on weekdays.
Pack it securely and send it to our Grays, Essex workshop — Royal Mail, DHL or UPS all welcome.
Ultrasonic clean and board-level repair, then a full bench test before anything ships back.
Sent back tracked and insured, UK-wide. Typical turnaround 3–5 working days.
Every repair is done personally by Sorin — the component-level specialist behind the Electronics Repair School YouTube channel, where 460,000+ subscribers learn board-level diagnostics and micro-soldering. Your laptop is worked on by the same hands you see in those videos, never handed off to a junior tech.
Most UK spills we open did not hit the motherboard first. Liquid enters at the keyboard, pools on the trackpad cable, then wicks along the board edge to the charging IC and the battery connector. That is why a laptop can still turn on the night of the spill and then refuse to charge a week later — the rails that died were the ones the liquid reached last.
Coffee and beer leave sugar that stays conductive after it dries. Tap water leaves minerals. Seawater and even some “just a few drops” of sports drink leave chlorides that eat copper. Rice does not touch any of that. A hairdryer drives liquid under shields. On the bench we look under magnification first, then clean — by hand when the contamination is light and recent, ultrasonic when it sat wet or the residue is sugary — and we test the power rails before we call the machine saved.
No fix, no fee. A written quote before anything touches your board. Most wet machines reach the Grays bench through the UK mail-in service. If the clean reveals a destroyed power rail, that becomes motherboard repair. A full ASUS UM431D water-damage teardown is on our repair case notes if you want to see what the bench actually looks like.
